Twinings' Lemon Green Tea has a subtle, natural lemon flavoring that gives it a delicate taste.

Twinings is known for its wide range of teas, and with so many varieties available, I often find myself picking up new ones when I travel. Yet, every time I visit a supermarket abroad, I always seem to discover a Twinings tea I haven’t seen before.

As the brand behind the first-ever Earl Grey and one of the original tea suppliers to the British royal family, Twinings' reputation is well-established. It’s a brand you’ll often find on supermarket shelves around the world, alongside Ahmad and Akbar, offering good quality at a relatively affordable price.

In Korea, we don’t have the same extensive range of Twinings teas that you’d find in European markets, but the brand is still active here, with its presence noticeable at fairs like the Seoul CafΓ© Show.

Today, I’m trying a tea that isn’t available in Korea—Twinings Green Tea with Lemon, or Green Tea Citron, which I picked up during a trip to France. The packaging is in French, naturally.

The steeping instructions recommend 2-3 minutes, but I think 2 minutes is plenty. Any longer, and the green tea becomes a bit too astringent for my taste, overpowering the lemon. This isn’t the kind of lemon green tea that bursts with citrusy freshness.

The lemon flavor is more subdued—it's a mellow, slightly sweet, heavier lemon rather than a bright, zesty one. Similarly, the green tea feels a bit weightier, lacking the lightness you might expect. Sipping it warm, it strikes me as a tea that would pair well with a rainy day, looking out the window.

Because the lemon flavor is so mild, it seems like it would pair nicely with lemon pastries or other treats that enhance the lemony notes. However, when I ask myself, "Would I buy this again?" the answer is a clear no.

Out of curiosity, I tried brewing it iced, hoping the flavors might shine through more. Unfortunately, the tea became even more diluted—the taste and aroma faded, leaving me with what felt like little more than flavored water.

I can imagine this tea working on a hot summer day with a dash of lemon juice to quench thirst better than plain water, but it's not something I’d find particularly appealing.

Personally, my favorite Twinings teas remain Australian Afternoon Tea and Russian Caravan—those are the ones I remember most fondly.
