Rooibos, One of the Healthiest Teas for Pregnant Women

TEEKANNE, a German herbal tea brand, undergoes a strict process of cultivation, harvesting, production, and management to ensure consistent quality of its tea leaves. Founded in 1882, the brand has long been recognized for its quality and value. The price is reasonable, making it accessible to everyone.

Today, I’m featuring TEEKANNE's Rooibos Caramel, recommended as a tea for pregnant women. Recently, I suggested rooibos from Tavalon, Smith Tea, and Celestial Seasonings to a pregnant friend looking for rooibos. Alongside 100% rooibos, there are various flavored rooibos options and rooibos blended herbal teas, allowing you to choose one with your preferred scent or taste, which might help in making a selection.

🍡

As soon as you open the tea bag of TEEKANNE's Rooibos Caramel, the extremely sweet caramel scent fills the air. It has a rich aroma that is reminiscent of caramel candy, almost making you feel as if you have caramel in your mouth.

In recent years, rooibos tea has been categorized into red rooibos and green rooibos. TEEKANNE's Rooibos Caramel is made using rooibos grown in the highlands of the Cedarburg Mountains in South Africa. Although the amount of tea leaves was modest, it was sufficient to brew one cup of tea.

Rooibos tea is caffeine-free and rich in antioxidants and minerals, making it safe for pregnant women and children to drink like water. When I first encountered rooibos, I described it as “water cut from trees.” Even now, I still believe it tastes like that. This is the mysterious charm of rooibos that I have never experienced anywhere else.

I was concerned whether the sweet and delicious impression conveyed through the tea's aroma would truly translate to its taste.

In flavored teas, if the scent is appealing enough to seem perfect, the taste often doesn’t match or feels disconnected from the aroma. So, I approached the red-tinted brew with a mix of apprehension and excitement.

🍡

As I buried my nose in the teacup, I was captivated by the sweetness that didn’t feel artificial. Rooibos is an infusion tea that does not become bitter, even if you steep the tea bag for a long time, eliminating the need to keep checking the time. The more I inhaled the aroma of TEEKANNE Rooibos Caramel, the more delightful it became. I thought it would be lovely to make a caramel-flavored milk tea like this.

Finally, the cup of tea was ready, and the alluring infusion, which seemed to be rooibos, was flowing from the transparent cup. When I tasted it, the flavor was clean, just as I expected from the aroma, but when swallowed, it felt somewhat artificial. As the tea cooled, this feeling intensified, and I felt that the scent and taste did not quite align with my expectations.

🍡

The taste had a hint of caramel flavor. The aroma was completely captivating when I steeped the tea bag, but the taste didn’t match that allure. I thought it might be better to choose a tea food with caramel syrup sprinkled on top instead.

Was it completely bad? Not at all! It doesn't give the impression of being terrible, but it also doesn’t make me think, “I need to drink this again,” and I probably won’t put it in my shopping cart for the next purchase. Rather, I think I would drink it again at least once if someone gifted it to me.

Next time, I’ll try it iced.
In any case, its soft taste and aroma suggest it might be a bit better when made as an iced tea.
