A Refreshing Note Like Lady Grey
This is Ronnefeldt’s Earl Grey, which you can enjoy with a light and tangy profile, reminiscent of Lady Grey with its added citrus elements. It’s not as heavy as a classic Earl Grey.
Still, there’s no Korean text on the back of Ronnefeldt's Teavelope packaging. It's a persistent disappointment. Considering the growing number of tea enthusiasts in Korea, it's a shame that enjoying the endless variety of black teas remains limited due to customs tariffs.

It’s been a while since I brought out the Ronnefeld Teavelope. For some time, I was obsessed with Steven Smith Teamaker’s Meadow and Tavalon’s Jasmine Pearl. After drinking only those two teas, I fell in love with delicious Pu-erh tea. I continued to drink Pu-erh tea like water, rooibos tea like water, and stayed away from coffee. So, for the first time in a while, let’s try some black tea with caffeine! With that thought in mind, I took out a Ronnefeld tea bag from the cupboard.
If TWG or Dammann FrΓ¨res’ classic Earl Grey rates as a 10, Ronnefeldt’s version feels like a 5 when brewed as a straight tea. The bergamot scent is prominent but not heavy, making it feel like a lighter Earl Grey.
Even just sniffing the teabag gives the impression of a refreshing tea, similar to Twinings’ Lady Grey or Fortnum&Mason’s Victoria Grey, with additional citrus notes.

It was exhilarating to drink a classic tea after so long. After more than a decade of enjoying tea, if I had to pick the type I’ve drunk the most in all its varieties, it would undoubtedly be Earl Grey. I might have been a caffeine addict, drinking Earl Grey like water.
After steeping the tea and taking the first sip, the flavor feels a bit heavier than the initial scent from the teabag. Ronnefeldt’s Earl Grey is made with a Darjeeling base infused with natural bergamot oil.
The golden hue of the brew gives an impression of seriousness rather than lightness. The once-refreshing bergamot aroma steps back, and the characteristic weight of Earl Grey subtly emerges.
π
Even so, it’s not as heavy as a typical Earl Grey, making it a good choice for beginners. For a brighter taste, adding a lemon slice would be nice. I wouldn't recommend adding sugar, as the flavor isn’t robust like Lipton’s Yellow Label.
Aside from adding lemon to the tea, pairing it with a tangy tea food like a lemon cake would create a perfect balance. It’s an Earl Grey that lets you enjoy a gentle flavor.
It’s perfect to think of it as somewhere between classic Earl Grey and Lady Grey. Maybe it’s because I hadn’t had Earl Grey in a while, but I truly enjoyed this tea time. It made me think, “Yes, this is Earl Grey!”
I feel like trying a stronger Earl Grey next time.
